How to take care of your sex toys?

They are always attentive to your needs and know exactly how to satisfy you… Let’s face it, your sex toys are hard to match lovers. Discover our tips and tricks to make your relationship with your pleasure accessories last as long as possible.

Your sex toys give you unforgettable sensations, so why not do everything you can to preserve them? — your wallet, the planet and especially your future orgasms are worth it! If you're going to invest in your pleasure, you might as well make sure you can enjoy it for a long time, right? Absolutely. 🫡

We invite you to explore our tips for extending the life of your favorite pleasure accessories.

Read the instruction manual

We know you just got your new toy, and after unboxing it, your first instinct will probably be to take off your clothes to explore your new sensations — we understand. 😉

Even though it’s probably the last thing you want, to know how to properly care for your new pleasure tool, we strongly suggest you read the instruction manual that comes with it. The most important thing: know what it’s made of. Silicone like our suction cup dildos , glass, gelatinous latex (often called jelly ), hard plastic, metal… each material has its own needs for use, cleaning and storage!

The instruction manual will give you the best tips to pamper your new baby. Take the time to discover its special features to fully enjoy it.

Clean your toys after each use

This may seem obvious to some, but it may be easy to forget for others. Why? For the same reasons that you wouldn't wear dirty underwear for several days: hygiene, to avoid bad odors and especially to prevent infections caused by bacteria that could develop in your most intimate areas. In contact with your bodily fluids, your toys must be cleaned carefully after each use.

Your pleasure zones are precious, and taking care of them means pampering them with a perfectly clean accessory.

If you really want to take every precaution, also remember to clean your toy before each use, to remove any dust that may have settled on it since the last time.

Choose the right cleaning method

It's not just about cleaning them, you also need to know the right way to do it to avoid damaging your toys with products or methods that aren't right for them.

The simplest solution, suitable for almost all types of toys: warm water and a mild soap (hand or dish soap), without perfume. Rub your accessory with your hand or a small damp cloth, dry it with a clean towel (avoid the one that has been lying on its hook for a week and which itself needs a wash) and that's it.

The perfect solution: opt for a cleaner designed specifically for sex toys, such as Frotti -Frotta . It guarantees optimal cleanliness for your accessories while preserving their quality.

Sterilize your toy

Cleaning and sterilizing are different but equally important. Sterilizing your toy means completely ridding it of any trace of bacteria, microbes or viruses for perfect hygiene.

It's especially important to sterilize your toy if you use it for anal sex, share it with others, or have any type of infection. Even if this isn't the case for you , we still suggest sterilizing your toys from time to time.

So how do you sterilize your sex toy?

If yours doesn't have a motor and is made of silicone, Pyrex, glass, or stainless steel, you can soak it in boiling water for a few minutes (as you may already do with your menstrual cup, if you use one), or even run it through the dishwasher.

Otherwise, you can get a UV sterilizing machine, or disinfect (deep clean) your toy with a product designed for this purpose such as wipes or an antibacterial spray.

Porous toys, like jelly ones , are difficult to clean and nearly impossible to sterilize properly. This material quickly becomes sticky and a real breeding ground for bacteria. We recommend using a condom with this type of toy, even solo! Our advice: choose a different type of toy instead.

Avoid submerging your toys unless they are specifically designed for this purpose.

Be careful, “water-resistant” does not mean submersible. While a water-resistant toy may be suitable for a naughty shower, submerging it in your bath is likely to quickly reduce its lifespan.

In general, if your toy vibrates, spins, runs on batteries, needs to be plugged in, or has any kind of motor, it's probably not submersible unless it's explicitly stated so: something to keep in mind when cleaning and sterilizing, but also for your sexual choices .

Store your toys properly

No need to complicate things. Store your toys in a dry, cool place — your underwear drawer or the one on your bedside table works great.

We suggest placing them in a small cloth bag, away from dust (or cat hair). Store your silicone toys separately, preferably in individual bags — contact between silicone products can damage their surface. This makes them more prone to bacteria buildup, and you'll have to replace them more quickly.

Use the right lubricant

Your choice of lube obviously depends on your preferences, allergies, and preferred sexual practices. But if you also plan on using it with your toys, be careful about the ingredients. As mentioned above: avoid combining two silicone products together. The same goes for silicone-based lube, which should not be used with silicone toys. Oil-based lube, too, should be used with caution with this type of toy because it can stick to it and be difficult to clean. The safest option: a water-based lube like Eau La La , designed to be compatible with all your favorite toys.

Disconnect

Finally, if your toy has a motor, we recommend removing its batteries when you're not using it to protect it from corrosion. If it's rechargeable, avoid leaving it plugged in for too long to preserve battery life — just like you do with your laptop.
